Cowboys Unwillingness to Pony up for Jamal Adams is a Bad Look for Jerry Jones
The Dallas Cowboys lost a top defensive back in Byron Jones this offseason. He signed a massive five-year deal with the Miami Dolphins and the Cowboys could use some help in the secondary as the team tries to advance beyond the Divisional Round for the first time since 1995.
New York Jets safety Jamal Adams' name is one that has come up in trade rumors as he wants a new contract right now. He is in the fourth year of his deal and is ready to get paid beyond his rookie contract. Despite the mutual interest between he and Dallas, such a trade has yet to gain any traction.
What are the Cowboys doing?
Trading for Adams would be a blockbuster move that seems right up Jerry Jones' alley. One obstacle to clear would be getting the Jets to even make the deal in the first place. However, sending some top draft picks should not be a concern if Jones feels he is one star away from making a run at a Super Bowl.
The Cowboys are a legendary franchise that has actually not had too much success since the mid-1990s. The team had two playoff wins during the 2010s and Jones' reputation has taken a hit due to his team being mostly mediocre.
Making a trade for Adams and locking up the two-time Pro Bowler on a long-term deal would be a coup for Jones. Instead, it appears he's satisfied with that mediocrity.
