Cowboys Legend Sean Lee Reportedly Interested in Joining Giants if Dallas Doesn't Offer Contract
Sean Lee has had a successful run as a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys dating back to 2010, being named an Pro Bowler twice and a First Team All-Pro once, and he's even led the NFL in interception return yards. However, he's struggled in recent years with injury issues, and if a new Cowboys contract isn't on the table, he's prepared to look elsewhere for a new way forward.
Lee should have plenty of interest if talks with the Cowboys fall through, particularly after appearing in all 16 games in 2019 for the first time in his career. With that in mind, he is reportedly interested in joining the New York Giants. And it would be a great fit.
Not having to pay a high average annual value would be a plus for the Giants, who are determined to get younger and optimize a rebuild. Veteran leadership is always needed, of course, and Lee would make a fine mentor for the youngsters on the Giants D. He has 14 interceptions and 30 forced fumbles in his NFL career, and his locker room presence on top of it all makes him an attractive asset.
However, it is still likely at this time that Lee stays with the Cowboys for at least one more year.
While Lee would be a helpful addition to most teams, the concern about his injury history -- he's only played 109 out of 160 possible regular season games in his career) -- along with his 33 years of age may be enough to scare some teams away. But his past skill and mentorship could be huge for a team such as the Giants, who'd be wrong not to check in with him this offseason.
