Cowboys Make Another Smart Move and Screw Giants With Cameron Erving Signing
Cameron Erving was widely considered a bust after being taken with a first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2015. Then he was traded to Kansas City in 2017, and began to turn his career around after moving from center to guard and getting some proper coaching.
Erving was part of the Chiefs' Super Bowl-winning team this past year and hit free agency soon after. He is reportedly heading to the Dallas Cowboys in a move that adds depth to the line and takes talent off the offensive line market, where teams like the New York Giants could certainly use it.
Yes, the G-Men could have used Erving in a backup role. Former Cowboys coaches Jason Garrett and Marc Colombo are on Joe Judge's staff, and likely saw similar attributes to whatever sold Dallas on Erving before their former team poached him off the market. The Giants did take Andrew Thomas with the No. 4 overall pick, but adding depth in the offseason on the offensive line never hurts.
There are plenty of people on social media making fun of the move to sign Erving, but those individuals failed to see the former bust turn his career around and actually become a legitimate swing tackle or guard option in the NFL.
The Giants could have used some depth behind Kevin Zeitler, Will Hernandez, Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming, and the young Andrew Thomas. Erving was not a superstar sitting on the market, but the Cowboys will benefit from signing him.
