Most Overpaid Players on the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys, despite their reputation as reckless spenders, have one of the best financial situations in the NFL, as most of the players that are eating up huge cap hits (Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Jaylon Smith, Ezekiel Elliott) are among the best at their position in the game.

However, mo team is immune to shouldering a few bad contracts, and it's safe to say these three players, despite their talent, are massively overpaid.

3. DT Tyrone Crawford

Even league minimum was a bit on the expensive side for Crawford last year, as the $9 million man only managed four games, three tackles, and one sack in 2019. While the seven-year veteran still has some gas left in the tank, his steep drop off in production from an impressive 2018 campaign to the nightmare that was 2019 should make Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones ponder getting rid of him.

2. DE DeMarcus Lawrence

After piling up 24.5 sacks in 2017 and 2018, Lawrence demanded a new contract, and he was granted a new deal that will take up $21 million worth of cap room in 2020 with another $36 million in dead cap. He rewarded their generosity with 45 tackles and five sacks in 16 games last year. With three more years left on his contract after 2020, Dallas is going through major buyer's remorse at the moment.

1. QB Dak Prescott

Let's put aside the debate of "Does Dak deserve an expensive new contract?" Of course he does. However, thanks to the franchise tag, Dallas will pay a guy that has one playoff win in four years a $30 million salary that puts him on par with some of the best quarterbacks in all of football. Prescott is a franchise quarterback, and his deal was likely influenced by a quarterback market that is going off the rails at the moment, but he's not a $30 million player at the moment.
