Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones' Comments Make it Seem Like He's in No Rush to Get Ezekiel Elliott Back
By Karl Rasmussen
The Ezekiel Elliott holdout seems no closer to a conclusion than it did last week, and Jerry Jones' doesn't appear overly worried about when Zeke returns to Dallas.
While Jones did clarify how important Elliott is to the franchise, his comments made it seem like he's not rushing to get back the star running back.
Jones seems to be okay with Elliott being absent for part of the season, so long as he's able to contribute in the "dog days of this season."
The holdout stems from a contract dispute, as Elliott is seeking to be paid as the league's top earning running back. It was reported that the Cowboys offered him a deal that would make him the second-highest paid player at his position, but nothing materialized.
A more recent report claims the team has yet to improve on that offer, putting the negotiations into purgatory.
Jones seems to have enough confidence in his squad to survive a portion of the season without Zeke in the backfield, and while having fresh legs from their star running back at the tail-end of the year would be a boost, it remains to be seen whether Tony Pollard and Alfred Morris can handle the load.
Still, Jones' comments make it seem as if these contract negotiations are far from over, and could very well drag on into the regular season.
