The Perfect Plan B for the Cowboys if They Can't Sign Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper to Long-Term Deals
By Sean Facey
It goes without saying that the Dallas Cowboys have some serious decisions to make this offseason. They have to figure out what they want to do with superstar quarterback Dak Prescott and standout wide receiver Amari Cooper, both of whom are deserving of rich contracts.
But if they can't bring them both back on long-term deals, it's not the end of the world. In fact, there's actually an enticing alternative for them to pursue.
Instead of signing back Prescott to the mammoth contract he wants, the Cowboys can make the wise decision and trade him. They'd get some draft capital for him for sure, setting them up nicely to build a sustainable future.
The Cowboys could then pursue a deal with legendary New England Patriot Tom Brady to fill the void left by Prescott. He seems to have at least a year or two left in him, and if they were to franchise tag Amari Cooper, then they'd have the weapon that Brady so desperately needs for at least one more season before buying themselves time to ink him long term when the salary cap likely balloons in 2021.
A Dallas offense headlined by Brady, Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott would be a force to be reckoned with. They would be Super Bowl contenders without question.
But we're not done there.
Picking Jalen Hurts in this year's draft would also set them up nicely for the future. While Brady carries the team as the starter, he can mentor Hurts and mold him into the quarterback and leader that he has the potential to be when Brady eventually hangs up his cleats, which should be within the next few years.
In following this plan, the Cowboys can transition from one franchise quarterback to another without committing major amounts of money to anyone long term. It's the perfect bridge from one franchise star to another.
