3 Players Cowboys Need to Re-Sign or Extend Not Named Dak Prescott

The most critical Dallas Cowboys offseason in recent memory continues for Jerry and Stephen Jones. Getting quarterback Dak Prescott signed to a new contract is only the tip of the iceberg as a number of other key players on both sides of the ball approach expiring contracts.

Prescott's services won't be worth much if they can't keep him surrounded by talent, and the organization must prioritize these players in particular if they are to give their young quarterback a fighting chance to earn his money.

3. Amari Cooper

The trade for Amari Cooper last season proved to pay off quickly for the Dallas Cowboys, but they can make the trade a long term fix at the position by re-signing the wide receiver this offseason. Cooper provided a dynamic spark to the Cowboys passing game as a legitimate deep threat who can take the top off a defense and open up the field.

2. Byron Jones

Cornerback Byron Jones has been one of the few constants in the Big D defensive backfield since he was drafted in the first round in 2015. He's been rated among the league's best cornerbacks during his rookie contract and the Dallas defense can't afford to get any thinner after a disastrous 2019. Reports are that the Cowboys have not engaged in talks to bring Jones back, but they better hop on that soon or it will be them who is getting burned next year.

1. Randall Cobb

While Cobb was a lesser part of the Cowboys passing game than Cooper and Michael Gallup, the value of keeping together a wide receiver core that sparked the NFL's top offense in 2019 far outweighs what it would cost to bring him back. Cobb is the veteran wide receiver on the roster, and has experience with new head coach Mike McCarthy.
