Dak Prescott's Sheer Patience Awaiting New Contract Should Be Worth Millions in Itself

Dallas Cowboys fans entered the 2019 NFL season surely feeling a certain amount of anxiety about the number of top players among their ranks that needed contract extensions in a timely manner -- and lucrative ones, at that. Right on cue, Ezekiel Elliott and Demarcus Lawrence ended up signing on the dotted line, but the same cannot be said for star wideout Amari Cooper and franchise QB Dak Prescott.

At this rate, Prescott in particular reserves some right to feel irked by the apparent lack of progress up to this point. But to hear him tell it, he's not shaken by the situation at all. He acknowledges it's simply part of the game.

For showing such incredible patience as the calendar turns to 2020, Prescott is showing us all just how much he deserves a fat multi-year deal.

This is the behavior of the consummate company man. He wouldn't have even considered holding out like so many players do. He never drew undue attention to himself despite being unable to agree to extension terms in the offseason. He just kept doing his job.

That should tell Jerry Jones and Co. everything they need to know about the poise and priorities of the man they scooped up in the middle rounds of the 2016 draft.
