Cowboys Reportedly Hire Joe Philbin as Offensive Line Coach and Dismiss Marc Colombo
By Scott Rogust
Mike McCarthy is in the midst of building a staff in an effort to bring the Dallas Cowboys back to their first Super Bowl in over two decades. His latest addition is a familiar face for McCarthy.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys are hiring former Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin as the team's offensive line coach, effectively replacing Marc Colombo.
The Cowboys were expected to make massive changes to the coaching staff, and Colombo's name was one that wouldn't be retained by McCarthy. The news is surprising, as Colombo helped lead the Cowboys to the fifth-best running game in the league, thanks to his coaching at the offensive line.
It's important to note that Philbin previously served as an offensive line coach with the Green Bay Packers under McCarthy in 2006. After being fired from his Dolphins head coaching gig in 2015, McCarthy brought him back in 2018 as the Packers' offensive coordinator. Once McCarthy was shown the door during the 2018 season, Philbin served as the interim head coach.
Philbin now joins big names like John Fassel, Jim Tomsula, and Mike Nolan as the newest faces of the Cowboys coaching staff.
A new era has arrived for the Dallas Cowboys, and the fanbase has every reason to get excited for next season.
