The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be setting up the stage for the next decade of football with Mike McCarthy on the sidelines and Dak Prescott under center. All of that could come crashing down, however, if the Cowboys and Prescott continue to remain deadlocked, as pertaining to their signal caller's new deal.

With neither side willing to budge, Dallas is likely going to use their franchise tag on Prescott to keep him as a Cowboy for 2020, albeit at a vastly discounted price.

Ah yes, franchise tagging the quarterback. That has never worked out poorly. Oh, right, Kirk Cousins.

Out of the four seasons Prescott has to his name in the NFL, this one was his finest statistical year to date, as he set new personal records in yards per attempt (8.2), passing yards (4,902), and passing touchdowns (30).

The Cowboys might have gone just 8-8, but Prescott proved that he can handle the pressure of being a franchise quarterback. The fact Dallas is unwilling to give him any ground in negotiations could come back to bite them, especially if he's going to handicap them via the cap.

Prescott and the Cowboys seemed like a match made for the next decade, but tagging Prescott could cause this marriage to break apart due to the two sides being far apart on the financial side of things.
