Cowboys Reportedly Not Expected to Give Jason Garrett a New Contract to Nobody's Surprise
By Karl Rasmussen
The Dallas Cowboys fell short of expectations when they crashed out of the postseason in 2019. Despite the team's 47-16 thrashing of the Redskins on Sunday, it was all for naught considering the Week 16 loss to the Eagles plus Philly's win over the Giants.
After an up-and-down season, filled with rumors of Jason Garrett's ousting from the organization, Cowboys fans have finally got their wish.
According to reports, the Cowboys are expected to inform Garrett that he won't be given a new contract, effectively putting an end to his 10-year tenure as the team's head coach.
Garrett amassed an 85-67 record over that span. The team, however, made just three playoff appearances under his watch, never advancing past the divisional round. The one positive was that Garrett had just one sub.-500 record during his stint in Dallas.
The 53-year-old had an extremely long leash with the Cowboys, as owner Jerry Jones frequently defended his head coach through thick and thin. It seems that Jones has finally run out of excuses for Garrett, and thus, the head coaching change has finally come to fruition.
The Cowboys will now be among a handful of teams that will start the offseason with a head coaching search. With the way this team is built, however, there should be a variety of suitors eager to take over in Garrett's stead.
