Cowboys Reportedly 'Optimistic' on Reaching Deal With Dak Prescott During Training Camp
By Jerry Trotta
The Dallas Cowboys have given us every possible inclination that they believe Dak Prescott is their franchise quarterback. Well, every possible reason except giving him the money of a franchise gun-slinger, that is.
The two-time Pro Bowler is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is reportedly seeking a contract worth up to $34 million per year. But do the Jones' view Dak as a $30 mil-plus QB?
Per NFL Network's Jane Slater, who just so happens to be well-informed and sourced on all things Cowboys, both sides could agree to a deal in the coming weeks with training camp set to kick off in a few days time on July 27.
It's about time, no? Fellow NFC East QB Carson Wentz just got PAID in a big way, so why shouldn't the Cowboys go out and lock down their own young star for the foreseeable future?
And we'd be hard-pressed to find a rational football fan tell us that Prescott hasn't earned his dues, despite his brief windows of being erratic. In 2018, the Mississippi State product threw for a career high in yards (3,885) and completion percentage (67.7%), while adding 22 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions.
He also ran for another 305 yards and 6 scores.
It would behoove America's Team to get this deal done ASAP. The $720,000 base salary the 25-year-old is set to rake in next season, given his production, is downright laughable.
