Cowboys Reportedly Sign Veteran RB Alfred Morris Amid Ezekiel Elliott Contract Saga
By Mark Powell
A Cowboys reunion or some Ezekiel Elliott insurance?
Sure, it's unfair to deem Alfred Morris as a potential replacement for Elliott should they fail to reach terms before the regular season, but Dallas has every right to prepare just in case. Le'Veon Bell broke that barrier in Pittsburgh just last season, as very few players had ever willingly sat out and games are forfeited a paycheck in search of a ling-term commitment.
Elliott has yet to comment on whether or not that's even a possibility in his camp, but after Jerry Jones' curious comments downgrading the importance of running backs on Monday, the timing of this move is suspect.
The key phrase there is"two years ago."
Morris is still capable of being a productive back with limited carries. It's unlikely they'd rely on him as a main option even if Elliott does remain out of action by his own choosing.
The Cowboys were looking a little weak at the position even with Elliott in tow, as they feature Tony Pollard and rookie Mike Weber behind Zeke in the backfield.
This is why--and we can't stress this enough--Elliott is the most valuable player on the Cowboys roster, whether they want to admit it or not. Adding Morris will help, but it's only a band-aid.
