Cowboys Should Sign DT Damon Harrison to Avoid Nightmare of Starting Trysten Hill in 2020
The Dallas Cowboys have already bolstered the defensive line by signing Gerald McCoy. Yet there is still room for improvement and Damon Harrison stands out as a great option. He spent last season with the Detroit Lions before the team released him in February.
Signing someone like Harrison is important because right now it is possible for Trysten Hill to be a starting defensive tackle in Dallas this season. The 2019 second-round pick appeared in only seven games and had five total tackles. This came during a year when Hill was disciplined by the team for frequently showing up late and even falling asleep during team meetings. A player with those type of issues is not someone you want starting on the D-Line.
Hill is still only 21 years old so there is time for him to mature and develop in the NFL. In the meantime, signing the 31-year-old Harrison would give the Cowboys another veteran on the defensive front. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2016 and had 49 total tackles last season.
Harrison would represent an immediate upgrade over fellow DTs Hill and Antwaun Woods, and could be paired alongside McCoy to make a formidable and experienced duo of defensive tackles.
Hill could also benefit by playing behind a veteran like Harrison who has been a regular starter in the NFL since 2013. Adding the vet makes sense for the Cowboys, and the longer Snacks remains on the open market, the more of a possibility this move becomes as the team continues to explore options to shore up the defensive line.
