Cowboys Get Secondary Upgrade They Needed by Stealing Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
By Jerry Trotta
Well, the Dallas Cowboys sure didn't wait long to restock the secondary following the departure of star cornerback Byron Jones in free agency.
In a move that will undoubtedly shore up the Cowboys' defense, the team reportedly inked an agreement with former Chicago Bears safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix late Thursday night. It's not necessarily a like-for-like swap, but Jerry Jones and Co. did well to snag the former Pro Bowler.
With Jones signing a huge deal with Miami and safety Jeff Heath landing in Las Vegas, the Cowboys took to the open market in order to restore some depth to the secondary.
Not to mention the former Bear was added on a bargain. Per reports, Clinton-Dix is headed to Dallas on a one-year, $4 million deal, signing on for less money than Heath did with the Raiders.
Additionally, Clinton-Dix shares a history with Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy, whom he played for in Green Bay for four seasons. The 27-year-old has played the majority of his career snaps at safety, but he's also shown the versatility to play CB when called upon.
In 2019 with Chicago, Clinton-Dix compiled 78 combined tackles, five pass deflections, two interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown), and two fumble recoveries.
Not only did the Cowboys lock down a much-needed addition for Mike Nolan's defense, but they managed to get their hands on a talented player at a great price.
