Craig Kimbrel's Contract Details With Cubs Prove His Holdout Accomplished Nothing

You'd think that it wouldn't take until early June for a closer with more career saves than hits allowed to find a job, but here we are. After what seemed like an eternity, Craig Kimbrel finally inked a three-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Compared to what he was asking for during the offseason, the Cubs made out like bandits, by simply exercising patience.

It's easy to see where Kimbrel was coming from originally. He is one of the best closers in the league and is only 31. He wanted a record-breaking deal, demanding to become the highest-paid reliever in baseball, but no one bought in.

Now, months later, Kimbrel inked a deal worth roughly the same amount as what teams were offering this past winter. It's a baseball version of Le'Veon Bell.

Kimbrel is going to be fine, he's still Craig Kimbrel after all. However, he can't be pleased with this offer considering what he thought he was going to get.

Was it worth sacrificing two months of the season? Probably not. Is Kimbrel now the face of the bullpen for one of baseball's best teams? He sure is.
