Cubs Activate Carl Edwards Jr. to Bolster Bullpen
By Ryan Giglio
It's been a busy day of moves for the Cubs. On Friday, Chicago activated RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from the injured list and optioned Randy Rosario to Triple-A Iowa.
Edwards had been out since mid June with a left thoracic strain in his upper back near his non-throwing shoulder.
Edwards, 27, has a 5.40 ERA in 15 innings on the season. Though his 17 strikeouts results in a good 10.2 strikeouts per nine, his eight walks results in a high 4.8 walks per nine.
Edwards struggled to begin the year before he was demoted to Triple-A in early April, but pitched better after being brought back a month later. in 13.1 innings since May 6, Edwards has given up three runs with 15 Ks against only three walks.
Rosario, 25, has struggled in 10.2 innings this year, sporting a 5.91 ERA. Walks have been a problem for Rosario too, as he has given up five free passes. He can miss bats, with 10 strikeouts on the season, but will surely look to improve his command while in Triple-A.
