Cubs Add 4 Players to 40-Man Roster Prior to Rule 5 Draft Deadline

The deadline to adjust the 40-man roster before Major League Baseball's Rule 5 Draft occurs on Wednesday night, and the Chicago Cubs literally beat the clock.
Chicago released a statement on Wednesday revealing they have selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller, infielder Zack Short, catcher Miguel Amaya, and right-handed pitcher Manuel Rodriguez to their 40-man roster.
Miller spent last season with Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a 7-8 record, 4.35 ERA, and 123 strikeouts in 26 games started.
Like Miller, Short had stints in Tennessee and Iowa throughout the 2019 season. The shortstop batted .235, .363 on-base percentage, and .404 slugging percentage, along with six home runs and 25 RBIs.
Amaya, the Cubs' No. 2 overall prospect, spent all of 2019 with Single-A Myrtle Beach, where he slashed .235/.351/.402 with 11 home runs and 57 RBI.
Rodriguez was a member of the Pelicans all of this past season, where he threw 65 strikeouts with a 3.45 ERA, through 35 games of relief.
The Chicago Cubs think highly of these prospects, and they ensured that no team would snatch them in the Rule 5 Draft next month.
