The Colorado Rockies just signed superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado to a record-breaking eight-year, $260 million contract last offseason. However, they have spent a grand total of $0 in free agency on major league contracts, and are now looking to trade the best player the franchise has known since Todd Helton.

The Rockies have been listening to calls for a potential Arenado swap for a while now, and per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are firmly at the head of the pack in trade discussions.

Arenado has won seven straight Gold Glove awards at third base and has made five consecutive All-Star games. Last season, the 28-year-old slashed .315/.379/.583 with 41 homers and 118 RBI. He's hit 35+ home runs in each of the past five seasons.

The Cubs and Cardinals don't have tons of prospects to trade, but selling the farm is totally worth it for a player of Arenado's caliber.

Arenado is a top 10 player in the league at minimum given his impact both in the field and at the dish. Arenado getting traded would be nothing short of a seismic event in baseball, as the Cubs or Cardinals would become World Series contenders while the Rockies would likely head for a rebuild.
