VIDEO: Cubs Anthony Rizzo Dropped a Ton of Weight Thanks to Incredible Workout Routine
By Alexander Wolz
There are many questions lingering about the currently-delayed MLB season and many may wonder how players are remaining prepared for the upcoming year. While some may be taking the time off, others have gotten to work, including the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo. Through a robust workout routine highlighted on social media, Rizzo has himself in his best condition yet, looking to be a terror for opponents when this season arrives.
The Cubs first baseman was already an intimating figure at 6-3 and 240 pounds. But through various exercises ranging from weightlifting to cardio and even replicating some base running, Rizzo has dropped 25 pounds and looks to be an even scarier player than before.
Rizzo is coming off a successful 2019 season, despite a relatively pedestrian year for the Cubs. His number were consistent, with the highest batting average yet in his career at .293, but also his first season with under 100 RBIs since 2014. After multiple seasons with over 30 home runs, Rizzo took a step back these past two years and may be looking to build hitting strength once again.
Adding some speed on the bases will prove vital as well for the player who led the league in hits by pitch with 27.
Most impressively, Rizzo has continued working off-the-field during the hiatus, living up to his reputation as one of baseball's most well-rounded individuals.
With his work both in the gym and outside of it, Rizzo has put himself in store for an incredible 2020 campaign, whenever it may begin.
