Cubs’ Brad Wieck Shut Down After Being Diagnosed With Abnormal Heartbeat

The Chicago Cubs stayed relatively quiet this offseason and are returning most of the talent from the 2019 team. That includes reliever Brad Wieck, who came over from San Diego via the Carl Edwards Jr. trade at the deadline.
Well, Wieck underwent a cardiac ablation procedure on Monday in hopes of preventing recurring atrial flutters, a heart condition with which he'd been diagnosed.

Following the procedure, Wieck returned to Arizona on Wednesday where he will rest and recuperate as he looks to work his way back to the mound.
After he's given ample time to recover, Wieck will be placed on a throwing schedule by the Cubbies in order to ramp up his activity before sticking him back in the bullpen.

Wieck appeared in 14 games for the Cubs after the trade last season, recording a 3.60 ERA and fanning 18 batters across 10 innings of work. The 28 year old is hoping his latest procedure can help him put these atrial flutters behind him once and for all.
