Since it is typically impossible for fans to determine the validity of most MLB trade rumors, we are left to dream about which players could find themselves donning a new uniform next season. The Chicago Cubs are one team that could be in the market to make a big deal, and said deal could come to fruition soon with Winter Meetings right around the corner. With that in mind, here are three dream targets that Chicago could trade for this offseason.

3. Matthew Boyd

Matthew Boyd doesn't have the same flash at some of the pitchers on the free agent market, but the Tigers are desperate to accelerate their rebuild. Not to mention, these two clubs are very familiar with each other given the Nick Castellanos and Justin Wilson/Alex Avila trades the past few seasons. When Chicago invests in Detroit Tigers, it just seems to work.

2. Francisco Lindor

According to several reports, it's no longer a matter of if Francisco Lindor gets dealt away, it's when. He is a young superstar who can make an impact with his fielding and all of his plate appearances. Chicago would potentially have to blow up their roster to acquire him, but if they are willing to bet on themselves, this could be a worthwhile deal for them if they are willing to give up some significant assets.

1. Mookie Betts

Betts is the big fish in the trade market, so acquiring him would certainly be a dream come true for Cubs' fans. Although some don't believe he will be traded, it would make sense for the Red Sox to part ways with Betts before he is due a large increase in pay. The 2018 AL MVP would be an addition that could slide in seamlessly defensively, as well as improve their lineup with one of the best hitters in the game.
