Cubs Have Reportedly Considered Adding Jacoby Ellsbury
By Brendan Balsamo

Once he signed a seven-year, $153 million contract with the New York Yankees in 2013, no one could have foreseen the unfortunate circumstances Jacoby Ellsbury would endure in his time in the Bronx, especially after his seven fantastic years in Boston.
After playing only 520 games in his six years with the club, including none over the last two due to injuries (or other concerns), the Yankees released him this past November. Although taking a chance on him is a gamble given his injury-riddled history, it seems Theo Epstein and the Chicago Cubs might want to give him a shot.
Cubs have considered/discussed Jacoby Ellsbury. Probably a long shot but Cubs have a leadoff issue and Ellsbury is a surprise free agent after being released. JE hasn’t played in 2 years so before moving forward they’d want to gauge his interest/mindset.

Ellsbury's massive contract was one of, if not the worst decision Brian Cashman has ever made in his 20-plus years as Yankees general manager, but the Cubs are no stranger to that sort of thing, after getting burned by Jason Heyward's massive contract as well. An eight-year, $184 million contract in 2016 was a wrong turn for the Cubs, very similar to the unfortunate contract the Yankees gave Ellsbury three years prior.
Ellsbury and Heyward on same team would be a showcase of worst contracts ever handed out in the same outfield #cubs

Yankees fans have taken to Twitter to help Cubs fans hopefully avoid another Ellsbury-related disaster.
As a #Yankees fan speaking to the #Cubs upon hearing the news you all might consider Jacoby Ellsbury, the best advice I can give to you is.... pic.twitter.com/ok838YcHb9

The MLB has seen Ellsbury at his peak, as during his stint with the Red Sox he was an All-Star, and finished second in the 2011 MVP balloting. There's a chance he could encounter a resurgence in the Windy City with his old friend David Ross at the helm, but it's very doubtful.
