Cubs Option Taylor Davis to Add Victor Caratini Back to Roster
By Parker White
Joe Maddon can officially feel safe when he starts giving Willson Contreras more days off.
On Thursday, the Chicago Cubs activated catcher Victor Caratini off the injured list and optioned catcher Taylor Davis to Triple-A Iowa to make room on the active roster.
Caratini only appeared in six games this season before going on the shelf after having surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. In 14 at-bats this year, Caratini is hitting .571 with one home run and five RBI.
Not only will Caratini serve as Chicago's backup catcher to Contreras, but he'll provided some much-needed depth at first base with Anthony Rizzo out with a back injury. He's in the lineup tonight batting sixth and playing first.
Taylor Davis may be known more for his ability to spot out the camera and give a blank stare into it, but in 15 at-bats with the big league club he hit .200 with a game-tying grand slam for his first career homer.
