Cubs Place Steve Cishek on Injured List and Recall Dillon Maples
By Parker White
On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs took another hit to their bullpen, as right-handed submariner Steve Cishek was placed on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation.
To take his spot on the active roster, the Cubs have recalled right-handed pitcher Dillon Maples from Triple-A Iowa.
Chicago has used Cishek in a variety of roles this season, but now that Craig Kimbrel has taken over the ninth inning, he's one of manager Joe Maddon's main setup men.
In 54 appearances, Cishek owns a 3.58 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 46 strikeouts over 50.1 innings.
Maples, 27, is a former top pitching prospect for the Cubs, but in 30 appearances at Iowa, he owns a 4.72 ERA with 63 strikeouts over 34.1 innings. He's been up and down with the big league club this year, and in 10 appearances he owns a 5.63 ERA with 13 strikeouts over eight innings.
