A potentially cancelled 2020 MLB season would have major implications for teams and players alike. Players would earn a year of service time and weird situations would arise as a result, such as Mookie Betts being a free agent without ever playing a game for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Chicago Cubs are dealing with a similar situation and three players in particular may have played their final game in a Cubs uniform in 2019 if this upcoming season never actually takes place.

3. Tyler Chatwood

Tyler Chatwood joined the Cubs in 2018 as a starting pitcher. He was then relegated to the bullpen for much of 2019 and has an ERA of 4.64 in two seasons with the club. The veteran is set to make $13 million this year and will be 31 in December. Stuck between starter and reliever status, he's just not worth the money if the Cubs are looking to cut salary entering 2021.

2. Jose Quintana

The Cubs traded away a package featuring Eloy Jimenez to the White Sox for Jose Quintana back in 2017. The southpaw has been good, but not great, since moving to the North Side. He posted a 4.68 ERA last season and only struck out 152 batters in 171 innings. Quintana is making $10.5 million this year and is 31 years old. A cancelled season allows the Cubs to move on from another veteran pitcher who came over when the team was looking to repeat in 2017 only to fall short.

1. Kris Bryant

Kris Bryant could be the next Mookie Betts. The star third baseman is under contract through 2021, but a cancelled season means his trade value goes down immediately based on team control, The Cubs may want to trade him next offseason to get as much value as possible after holding onto him this past winter amid so many rumors of a possible deal. Losing the entire season was not in the plans and the Cubs could look to get on with the inevitable if Bryant is not in the future plans.
