Cubs Recall Reliever James Norwood for Friday's Game
By Brian Cass
After splitting their four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies this week, the Chicago Cubs are making a change to their bullpen.
With Rowan Wick still working on making the transition from outfielder to pitcher, the Cubs decided to send him down to Triple-A to hone his skills. Subsequently, they also opted to bring up RHP James Norwood to add to their bullpen.
The 24-year-old pitcher has already appeared in 11 games for the Cubbies last season, pitching 11 total innings with a 4.09 ERA.
He's still learning the ropes of the MLB, so his struggles last year were to be expected. Based on 2018, he's probably a better option than Wick at this point.
Wick has only pitched in one inning this season, allowing two hits and one run.
There's no telling how long he'll stay down in the minors. But for the time being, it's what's best for him, as he continues to adjust to being a pitcher in the big leagues.
