Cubs Reportedly Exercise Anthony Rizzo's 2020 Club Option

This was a no-brainer for the Chicago Cubs' front office. Star first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been a fan favorite ever since he first arrived at Wrigley Field, with his big bat often sending dingers into the stands.
This offseason, the team had a decision to make with No. 44, but made the call on Sunday to pick up Rizzo's 2020 club option. Yup, to no one's shock.
Cubs news: In the least surprising move of the off-season, a league source indicates the Cubs have picked up Anthony Rizzo's option for 2020 at $16.5 million. Team should announce it later today.

As reported by insider Jesse Rogers, Rizzo's option will pay him a cool $16.5 million for next season. Rizzo, who just wrapped up his eighth year in the bigs, is coming off a campaign in which he hit .293 with 27 homers and 94 RBI.
It came in a disappointing season for the Cubbies, however, as the team failed to live up to expectations and missed the playoffs. Still, with his stellar glove and play at the dish, Rizzo did all he could to help out the club.

With another team option to come next year, Rizzo still has some time before he hits free agency. However, don't be surprised if the Cubs work on signing him to an extension within the next year.
