Cubs Reportedly Interviewing Joe Girardi on Wednesday
By Michael Luciano
The Chicago Cubs have wasted almost no time in finding a replacement for the now-deposed Joe Maddon, and they are going big game hunting to find the next man to lead one of the most complete teams in the NL.
Joe Girardi, currently on sabbatical and serving as an analyst for MLB Network and FOX, is going to interview with Cubs brass for their vacant managerial job.
Girardi is also rumored to be extremely interested in replacing Mickey Callaway as the New York Mets manager.
Girardi isn't viewed in the best light by Yankees fans due to an up-and-down end to his tenure, but it's undeniable that he was a solid manager for the Bronx Bombers, winning 56% of his games and a World Series title in his 10 years at the helm.
He'd certainly be a home run hire, but former Cubs catcher and ESPN analyst David Ross is also being considered to succeed Maddon. If Ross impresses in an interview, he could easily get the job over Girardi given his reputation in that clubhouse.
Girardi is clearly dying to get back into management, and the Cubs would present him with an opportunity to hit the ground running with a winning club.
