Cubs Reportedly Making Serious Push for Craig Kimbrel
By Parker White

Before the draft, the Chicago Cubs reportedly had interest in closer Craig Kimbrel, who somehow remains a free agent.
It didn't seem that real of a possibility, as the Cubs don't have a lot of financial flexibility, but according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cubs are "pushing hard" for the free-agent closer.

This would be a huge get for the Cubs, who have a huge bullpen need with closer Brandon Morrow still off the hill and countless other injuries to relievers.
Even though Chicago seemingly doesn't have the payroll flexibility based off their offseason moves, but because Kimbrel is seeking a multi-year deal, maybe they are getting creative and looking to backload the deal.

Obviously, since Kimbrel missed all of spring training and the first two months of the regular season, he'll need some time down in the minors to get ready for action.
However, with uncertainty surrounding Morrow this year, the Cubs need a back-end anchor like Kimbrel when the games matter in September and into October. Let's see if they get a deal done.
