Cubs Reportedly Signing Veteran Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez
By Sean Facey
Just over a week after his unceremonious departure from the Cleveland Indians, Carlos Gonzalez has already found a new home.
The Chicago Cubs plan to sign the three-time All-Star outfielder to a minor league deal, per insider Jesse Rodgers.
The 33-year-old Gonzalez has spent 12 years at the MLB level, but he struggled to find his old stroke in Cleveland in 2019. He slashed a paltry .210/.282/.276 for the Tribe, managing just three extra-base hits in 117 plate appearances, ultimately leading to his release.
He's been given a second chance at life with the Cubs, who will hope that he can get back to the style of play that produced a 40-home run season back in his Colorado Rockies days.
At the very least, he gives Chicago a veteran option in the minors that can be called up on short notice if the need presents itself.
The Cubs mark the fifth organization Gonzalez has been with during his career, and the third in the last two seasons.
If he can turn things around, this could prove to be an absolute steal for the Chicago Cubs.
