Cubs to Promote Pitching Prospect Adbert Alzolay and DFA Tim Collins
By Karl Rasmussen
The Chicago Cubs are looking to add some bullpen depth, and while they may have done so in the form of Craig Kimbrel, he's not being summoned to the big leagues just yet.
Instead, the Cubs will call up Adbert Alzolay to the majors to act as another relief arm. In a corresponding move, the Cubbies designated Tim Collins for assignment.
Alzolay currently ranks as Chicago's No. 4 overall prospect. In six starts at Triple-A Iowa this season, the 24-year-old has recorded a 3.09 ERA while striking out 46 batters across 32 innings of work.
The right-hander has three pitches in his arsenal, with his fastball and curveball both being highly rated. He also has a solid changeup that he mixes in as well.
The Cubs designated Collins for assignment after he made eight relief appearances for the team. Collins recorded a 3.52 ERA but struck out just 4 batters across 7.2 innings of work.
