Ian Happ took baseball by storm in 2017, flexing excellent power at the plate during his rookie campaign. The following season was not quite as smooth for the utility man, however, as the power receded as his strikeout count skyrocketed.

Well, the Cubs didn't feel confident in Happ at the season's start, sticking him in Triple-A rather than keeping him around on the North Side. Happ took the demotion in stride and has been tearing it up in Iowa. The Cubs have noticed his improvements, and are reportedly set to reward the 24-year-old with a promotion.

Happ is set to rejoin the Cubs on Friday, according to the Des Moines Register.

The former first-round pick from the 2015 MLB Draft has slashed .242/.364/.432 in Triple-A this year, but has been on fire throughout July. Over 20 games in the month, he's slashing .324/.451/.608 with 5 home runs, 12 RBI and 17 walks. His strikeout rate has also dropped considerably over the course of the month.

During his two seasons in the majors, Happ launched 39 home runs and recorded an OPS of .809. Strikeouts were a major problem for the youngster, as he whiffed 296 times in 875 plate appearances.

So, can Happ can provide a spark off the bench in Chicago now that he's making a return to Wrigley Field? If so, the Cubbies will have one more arrow in their quiver as they mount a big push for the postseason.
