VIDEO: Cubs Fans Are Going to Love Watching Yu Darvish Throw Filth
By Jerry Trotta
Stars around MLB are doing their best to stay in top shape with the assumption that the league and players' association will reach a compromise on a blueprint for the 2020 season before it's too late. Yu Darvish is no exception, as the Chicago Cubs right-hander showcased some nasty pitches during a recent bullpen session at the organization's Spring Training facility in Arizona.
For any fans wondering why the strikeout rate has skyrocketed in recent seasons, well, look no further than this filthy pitch. A mid-90s splitter that breaks at the last possible second would give opposing batters zero chance at making solid (if any) contact. Lefties would swing out of their respective shoes and righties would get so tied up that they would likely offer a checked swing at for lack of better ideas.
If there is a season this year, Cubs fans ought to expect Darvish to be at the top of his game right out of the gates. Who knows, maybe the four-time All-Star will finally emerge as the team's ace in 2020? He certainly looks up to the challenge.
