D'Andre Swift Reacts to Being Snubbed in Favor of Clyde Edwards-Helaire
By Scott Rogust
Act One of the NFL Draft has concluded, and although it was rather predictable, fans were rewarded with a few shocking selections at the bitter end. One of those surprises came at the very last selection of Thursday night's proceedings. The Kansas City Chiefs were heavily projected to take Georgia running back D'Andre Swift. Instead, the Super Bowl champions picked his SEC rival, Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU.
At the end of the night, Swift tweeted out less than a handful of words to let the world know how he felt.
You can't necessarily blame Swift, because draft experts predicted he would be the first running back to be taken off the board in the 2020 draft. But he had no takers. The Chiefs were sold on Edwards-Helaire, whom general manager Brett Veach compared to legendary running back Brian Westbrook. That's potential that head coach Andy Reid couldn't pass up on.
But that's no knock on Swift, because he's going to be a stud at the pro level. In his past two seasons at Georgia, Swift rushed for over 1,000 yards, while averaging over six yards per carry. He's not a big running back, but he makes up for it with his speed and elusiveness.
Although Swift misses out on the Round One pay, he's not going to have to wait long for his name to be called in Round Two. Teams like the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all in need of his services and have a pick near the top of the round.
Wherever Swift lands, he's going to use this snub by the Chiefs as motivation entering his rookie season. The rest of the NFL better watch out.
