D'Eriq King Transferring to Miami While Tate Martell is Still on the Roster is Downright Hilarious

With the college football season concluding, eyes were focused on Houston quarterback D'Eriq King, who announced his intention of entering the transfer portal back in September.
On Monday, King revealed he will be transferring to the Miami Hurricanes for his final season of eligibility. The Hurricanes bringing aboard King suggests the team has very little faith in Tate Martell developing into a starting caliber quarterback this season, or maybe ever.

As everyone knows, Martell hasn't had the best of luck in the NCAA.
Originally committing to Ohio State, Martell lost out on the starter's role to Dwayne Haskins in 2018. After Justin Fields transferred from Georgia to Columbus, Martell entered the transfer portal, realizing he had no shot of winning the job.
Martell gained a hardship waiver by the NCAA, saying the Buckeyes gave zero intention they would keep him after the arrival of Fields. Even when joining the Hurricanes, Martell was buried on the quarterback depth chart due to ineffective play, as the team opted to deploy redshirt freshman Jarren Williams as its starter.
Martell's initial season in Miami went so poorly that he actually switched to wide receiver at one point. He featured in just three games, making one pass attempt all year, rushing the ball seven times and failing to record a reception.

Now, with King joining the team and seemingly a lock to take over as the starting signal caller, Martell's misfortune continues to grow. To become a starter, Martell will have to enter the portal once again and try to earn immediate eligibility, if that's even possible at this point.
From budding high school star to a college backup fighting to even sniff the field, Martell's adjustment to the NCAA has been a rough one.
