Dabo Swinney Makes Bold Guarantee About College Football's Status Following COVID-19 Epidemic
By Evan Wolff
One of the side effects of coronavirus pandemic has been the complete stoppage of sports both at the professional level and at the collegiate level. With no clear indication of when the virus will allow society to return to normal, it's difficult to determine when sports will return. That hasn't stopped Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney from making a bold prediction about the upcoming season.
With colleges operating remotely and spring football practices disrupted, there are some doubts creeping in about the 2020-21 college football season operating under its normal schedule. However, Swinney is convinced that the season will go on as planned in front of sold-out stadiums, and has put a full guarantee behind it.
These comments are being made as prominent college football analysts like Kirk Herbstreit have made their own predictions that shed significant doubt about the college season being played without restrictions on fans. That hasn't stopped coaches like Swinney pushing back against those predictions, and the Clemson coach says that his mindset is "to get the Tigers ready to play in late August, early September."
He even uses the acronym T.I.G.E.R.S. (This Is Gonna End Real Soon) as a way to show college football fans that a return to normal life is coming sooner than we think. It's a nice sentiment, but whether that will actually come true is yet to be seen.
It does seem a bit early to make guarantees about a season that starts in nearly five months. However, if the experts are correct, it may be difficult to immediately jump back in to life as it was before the pandemic. As inspiring as the remarks from coach Swinney may seem, the truth is we just don't what the future holds.
