4 Best Fits for Dak Prescott if Cowboys Trade Him to Sign Tom Brady
By Jerry Trotta
Michael Irvin caused a raucous within Cowboys Nation when he reported "significant people" were telling him that Dallas was deliberating on whether to trade Dak Prescott in order to sign impending free agent Tom Brady.
The legitimacy behind the claim was immediately brought into question, but considering that Jerry Jones is still pulling the strings in Big D, it may not be as preposterous as it sounds.
Well, in the event that the Cowboys do trade Prescott, let's highlight some of the best fits for the 26-year-old signal caller.
4. New England Patriots
We know what you're thinking: Dak wasn't considered "elite" until Amari Cooper was traded to Dallas, and the Patriots have considerably worse offensive talent than the Cowboys. Our rebuttal? First, New England could easily add more weapons this offseason. Second, Prescott's ceiling was evidently hindered by Jason Garrett and he would promptly move to being mentored by arguably the greatest head coach ever in Bill Belichick and most creative offensive play-caller in Josh McDaniels. This is highly unlikely considering the Patriots aren't known for giving up assets AND paying one player a ton of money, but it's definitely a fit of sorts if they lose Brady.
3. Chicago Bears
This was a toss-up between the Bears and Colts, but our settlement essentially came down to the fact that Chicago's defense is more enticing than Indy's offense. Khalil Mack and Co. are simply a competent signal caller away from being able to lead the Bears to a Super Bowl. Mitchell Trubisky, despite having the endorsement of teammates and head coach Matt Nagy, probably isn't the answer in the Windy City.
2. Carolina Panthers
NFL analysts are pretty split on whether the Panthers should compete or tank for Trevor Lawrence in 2020. However, Carolina has a talented enough roster to return to their winning ways. Keep in mind this team spiraled out of control following Ron Rivera's questionable axing. With Matt Rhule ready to begin a new era in Carolina, Prescott could flourish in a similar role to the one he had in Dallas with a stud running back and dynamic receiving corps.
1. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers confirmed the inevitable last week by officially divorcing themselves from the regressing Philip Rivers. Slated with a No. 6 overall pick in April's draft, it's widely expected that Los Angeles could draft a quarterback. However, this roster is built to win now, and a myriad of injuries on defense and the offensive line saw Anthony Lynn's side fall well below expectations this past season. Think about what Prescott was able to do with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. Now, think what he could with with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler and (potentially) Hunter Henry, assuming the Chargers re-sign him. It's a match made in heaven.
