This Cowboys Starter Will Be the First to Lose His Job in 2020

Despite their ongoing drama at the quarterback position, the Cowboys have built up a solid roster on both ends of the field. One area where they particularly invested following the loss of Byron Jones was the cornerback position -- meaning that rising fourth-year corner Jourdan Lewis may find his way out of a job over the course of the upcoming campaign.

Competition is a good thing. It can motivate a player to strive for greater successes. But when you have this many cornerbacks on the roster, someone is bound to go. Let's go down the list here.

Awuzie has been a starter for consecutive seasons and delivered. Just a couple months ago, Anthony Brown inked a three-year contract extension. CJ Goodwin has been a key special teams piece, meaning he will likely remain on the roster. Maurice Canady and Saivion Smith are new acquisitions, while Trevon Diggs and Reggie Robinson were second- and fourth-round picks in this year's draft, respectively. With a proven track record behind him, Daryl Worley has made his way to Dallas as well, and is bound to make an impact due to his versatility.

What does all of that mean? Jourdan Lewis may very well find himself out of a starting job in Big D. This won't necessarily come about by his own doing, but because there are simply too many talented corners in the room now. The mostly-dead-but-not-quite rumblings about Dallas making a move for Jamal Adams only add to the equation.

Ultimately, Lewis' eventual may be best possible thing for himself and the Cowboys. It prevents Dallas from having to watch a corner waste away on the bench while also letting Lewis pursue some other destinations in the league. If he is indeed pushed aside, he will likely find a job somewhere else and make a larger contribution than he ever could with all the competition in the Metroplex.
