Dallas Keuchel Gets First Win as a Brave While He Continues to Get Back on Track
By Jared Kish
Dallas Keuchel took the mound last night for his second start as an Atlanta Brave after being signed by the team earlier in June. After quickly moving through the minors while gearing himself up to return to the bigs, Keuchel is proving he belongs on an MLB mound again.
Through it may have not been best start of the lefty's career, Keuchel put together a decent performance against the Cubs last night earning himself his first win of the season.
Keuchel went 5.2 innings giving up 8 hits, and holding the Cubs to just 3 runs as the Braves offense helped him out with 5 runs of their own. The southpaw was hitting the strike zone frequently, as 51 of his 85 pitches were thrown for strikes.
Still, there's work to be done. He let too many Cubs on base, as the 8 hits and 3 walks suggest, and his inability to strikeout more than 2 batters could be cause for concern, though the Cubs lineup is far from feeble.
The Braves have been one of the best teams in baseball since May 10 as they hold the second best winning percentage in the MLB since that date. Keuchel is a great addition to an already talented squad that quite possibly will find themselves playing baseball well into October.
With Keuchel continuously working to get back on track and be as dominant as he once was with the Houston Astros, the Braves certainly made the right choice in signing the left hander. Look for him to continue to improve as he tries to find his groove.
