Daniel Jones Responds to Baker Mayfield's Major Diss Just Like Eli Manning Would
By Parker White
Maybe Daniel Jones and Eli Manning have more in common than we originally thought.
It was revealed this morning that Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield ripped the New York Giants in a GQ interview for taking rookie quarterback Daniel Jones with the No. 6 overall pick. In response to that criticism, Jones took the high road and absolutely refused to issue any barbs.
"I think he's a great player." Overall, a smart move from a kid who hasn't taken an NFL snap in a regular season game yet.
But it's a shame we have to be talking about this at all.
Further controversy between these two has been nipped in the bud, it would seem. Jones gave a very blah answer -- just like Eli would have -- and no matter what Baker says in response to any of this, it's a moot point because Jones didn't take the bait.
Baker Mayfield is a good football player, and he is particularly exceptional at giving the media a soundbite to build a story around. It can be entertaining and lighthearted, but now it's a distraction for the Browns.
Head coach Pat Shurmur and quarterback Daniel Jones are simply ignoring this mess, which is most certainly for the best-- especially when you look at the Giants' situation and the fact they play in the explosive New York media market.
They have plenty to worry about, and Baker's comments can't be one of them.
