Dansby Swanson Expected to Return From IL This Weekend

Finally, some good news on the injury front for the Atlanta Braves.
Nick Markakis and Dansby Swanson were placed on the IL several days ago, with the former expected to miss 6-8 weeks. However, the news on Swanson is significantly better, as the stud infielder is set to return from his brief stint on the IL this weekend assuming all goes according to plan.
Per manager Brian Snitker's account, it sounds like Swanson was placed on the IL for precautionary reasons more than anything.
“If he’d have kept playing, I don’t know if [his heel injury] could have got better like it has,” Snitker said. “That’s why we wanted to get him off it. When he’s eligible to come off, he’ll be good to make a run at it the rest of the year.”
Swanson's heel was deemed worse than initially thought by the Braves' manager, which is what landed him on the IL to begin with. Yet, he participated in limited baseball activities on Monday.
As is the case around baseball, the 10-day IL allows teams to be cautious with players rather than allowing them to play through nagging ailments. Swanson is no exception, and he should be ready to go sooner rather than later as the Braves hope to hold off the Nationals and Phillies in the NL East.
