Darren Sproles Reportedly Out for Season Following Quad Injury in Practice This Week
By Karl Rasmussen
The Philadelphia Eagles brought back a couple of veterans this offseason in hopes of bolstering their offense, but things didn't go according to plan.
After DeSean Jackson was placed on IR with a core muscle injury a few weeks back, after unsuccessfully fighting through the pain, it was also revealed that veteran running back Darren Sproles sustained a torn right hip flexor during practice this week.
He'll reportedly miss the season as well, and his NFL career appears to be running short on time.
Sproles initially suffered the injury back on Oct. 6 against the Jets, but returned to practice in early November, and even played against the Bears.
He participated in two practices and a workout this week before apparently re-aggravating the injury. After disclosing the injury to the team and undergoing tests, it was revealed that he had further damaged the area.
Sproles, 36, appeared in six games for the Eagles in 2019, logging 17 carries for 66 yards, and six receptions for 24 yards.
The latest injury to the running back could spell the end of his career. Over the past three seasons, Sproles has appeared in just 15 games due to various ailments. He strongly mulled retirement over the offseason, but decided to come back for one more season (his 14th).
While Sproles is no doubt a trooper, this very much looks like the end of his playing days, given his age and the plethora of injuries he's sustained over the past few seasons.
