Ryen Russillo and Daryl Morey's Twitter Beef is Strange and Uncomfortable
By Michael Luciano
The Houston Rockets, led by GM Daryl Morey, have completely done away with the center and the mid-range jump shot in their analytics-driven style of play, as they are currently started a 6-5 forward in PJ Tucker at center and making it work.
While this style of play did get them a win over the Boston Celtics Saturday night, pundit Ryen Russillo once again questioned if this style of basketball can help them win in the playoffs like they does in the regular season.Morey has officially had enough of the criticism from the blue checkmarks on Twitter, and he finally jabbed at Rusillo with his classic brand of snark.
Basketball Twitter is rarely lacking for feuds. There's just a certain energy missing from this one.
Russillo responded to Morey's succinct barb by hoping that he doesn't forget how to tweet in Days Six and Seven, mocking the Rockets' failure to close out series in the playoffs under Mike D'Antoni.
Morey responded by saying that he's just doing his job.
Uh... sick burn, I guess?
Morey has clearly seen all the criticism of his decision to try and build a basketball team in an Excel spreadsheet, and the MIT alum is hoping that this new formula he came up with equates to success in the playoffs while all of his other experiments have failed. For now, he's sticking to his guns, however awkward it ends up being.
