Davante Adams Finishing Two Different Seasons With 997 Receiving Yards is a Sick Joke
By Scott Rogust
The Green Bay Packers overcame a 17-0 deficit to defeat the rival Detroit Lions on a game-winning field goal by Mason Crosby Sunday. As a result, the Packers clinched a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs.
Plenty of credit can be given to star receiver Davante Adams, who caught seven passes for 93 yards and a touchdown on Sunday afternoon. With those numbers, Adams finished the season with 997 yards, just three short of the 1,000 yard threshold. As it turns out, this is now the second-time in Adams' career that he finished a season with 997 yards.
The football gods can be very cruel at times.
Just think about it -- if Adams had not suffered that nasty turf toe injury back in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he would have eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark with room to spare.
All it would have taken was one more catch in the Motor City on Sunday. Or one more broken tackle. Alas, he's standing pat at 997.
The individual stats won't harm Adams' mindset one bit, however, as he and the Packers have a loftier goal in mind: a Lombardi Trophy.
Adams and Green Bay can now take the upcoming week off to relax and begin preparation for their Divisional Round opponent. Hopefully, he doesn't spend any time fretting over those three yards.
