Dave Martinez's Depressing Quote About Max Scherzer Shows How Devastated He is to Miss Game 5
By Michael Luciano

We've been deprived of a Gerrit Cole-Max Scherzer matchup due to the latter's health, as Scherzer will not make his scheduled start Sunday night due to a brutal bout of neck and back spasms. Joe Ross, who had a 5.48 ERA in 27 games, will be the spot starter.
Scherzer, one of the most fiery, intense performers in the sport, is clearly taking the loss of an opportunity hard, and this quote from Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez shows just how devastating the call was for the avowed gamer.

Scherzer, who tossed five innings of two-run ball in his only World Series start this season, will clearly be a tough-to-stomach loss for the Nationals.
Scherzer has pitched with a broken nose and has gone out there at less than 100% throughout his tenure in DC, so his toughness and competitive fire can never be questioned.
Nats manager Davey Martinez: And if you all know Max, obviously he pitched with a broken nose, he's been hurt before, he's gotten through things. When he comes in and says he's hurt this bad, he's hurt. I can tell you now he's very upset. ''

If the Nationals can hold on for dear life and manage to win this game, Scherzer could pitch in a Game 7, if it gets to that point. However, that possibility is looking pretty remote.
