David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez Will Be Inducted into Red Sox Hall of Fame Together in 2020
By Sam Dunn
Next year, two of the truly iconic figures in the modern history of the Boston Red Sox will find themselves canonized among an elite group.
David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, a pair of all-time sluggers who helped Boston's "bunch of idiots" win an historic World Series title in 2004 as part of a brilliant run of success, are among five honorees who will be inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2020.
The sluggers will be enshrined alongside All-Star catcher Rich Gedman, Dead Ball-era pitcher Bill Dinneen, and front office exec Dan Duquette.
Ramirez, so often his own worst enemy, was ultimately the guy you just couldn't quit. He won two championships in Boston, taking home World Series MVP honors in 2004, a season in which he also led the American League in home runs. He was an All-Star in all nine seasons he spent in a Red Sox uniform.
Then, of course, there's Big Papi. David Ortiz stuck around long enough to win three titles for the Sox, winning World Series MVP in 2013. He holds numerous franchise records, including the single-season home run mark he set in 2006 with 56 dingers. His famous No. 34 jersey was retired by the team two years ago.
You can't tell the story of the last quarter-century of baseball without Manny and Papi. When these two are enshrined next year, expect the Fenway Crowd to create seismic activity.
