VIDEO: David Ortiz Said Alex Verdugo Impressed Him During Postseason When Verdugo Didn't Play at All
By Scott Rogust
The Boston Red Sox were put in an unenviable position of trading away superstar Mookie Betts after it became clear he wouldn't sign a contract extension before hitting free agency next year. Boston ultimately moved him to the Los Angeles Dodgers, with their main return piece being outfielder Alex Verdugo. Betts' replacement already has a big fan in Red Sox legend David Ortiz. While speaking with the media at Red Sox spring training on Thursday, Ortiz said that Verdugo impressed him in the playoffs last season. The thing is... Verdugo didn't even play.
So, who's going to tell Big Papi? Fine, we'll tell him.
Not only did Verdugo not participate in the Dodgers' brief playoff stint this past season, but he has never been on a postseason roster in his three-year career. Not one.
Come on, Papi. We get it, you're the Red Sox's biggest supporter, and you're hyping up their latest acquisition to make the fan base feel better about the trade.
But to stretch the truth? That's not cool.
