Deion Sanders Claims Beef With Todd Gurley Over Falcons Number Was Just a Joke
By Michael Luciano
Todd Gurley wore No. 3 during his days at Georgia and the No. 30 during his extremely productive five-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams, but he's changing things up after signing with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.
Gurley confirmed that he would be wearing No. 21 during his first year in Atlanta, despite some sarcastic flack from Hall of Famer and former Falcon great Deion Sanders.
Deion's request to keep No. 21 off limits always seemed a bit odd, as cornerback Desmond Trufant, now with the Detroit Lions, wore the number for seven seasons. Now we know that Sanders was apparently joking with Gurley the entire time. It's all in good fun.
Gurley posted a photoshop that showed him sporting Atlanta's new jerseys with Sanders' old No. 21.
The Falcons don't retire numbers, as the best players in franchise history are inducted into the team's "Ring of Honor." As far as Gurley was concerned, No. 21 is fair game, and he's going to wear that number with pride during the 2020 season.
