Dellin Betances Advocates for Dallas Keuchel's Clubhouse Fit With Yankees
By Sean Facey
The prospect of Dallas Keuchel landing in New York may be gaining some legitimate steam.
Yankees reliever Dellin Betances has advocated for the free agent starter and former Cy Young winner, saying he'd be a great clubhouse fit in the Bronx as the Yankees gear up for a run at glory.
"He's a good guy," said Betances. "Looks like a fun guy to be with on a team."
The fun would extend far beyond the clubhouse, too. If the Yankees were to pick up Keuchel, they'd add him into a rotation that already features James Paxton, CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino.
He's got plenty of experience and plenty of talent. A vital member of Houston's 2017 World Series-winning team, Keuchel boasts a career 3.66 ERA with 945 strikeouts to boot.
With rumors swirling over the past week that the Yankees have emerged as frontrunners in the hunt for the southpaw's services, this signing has become a serious possibility.
The Yankees are one of the few teams that could comfortably afford to sign Keuchel at his reported one-year, $18 million asking price. They'd come in just under the top luxury tax threshold of $246 million, an absolute coup for the club.
The players seem more than open to bringing him in. All that's left is for the front office to go out and lock down a deal.
